It's only a whimsical notion

It's only a whimsical notion to sell burgers at the Royal International Air Tattoo 2013 at Fairford, But then again, I just might use it on my railway in any case all good railways have a greasy burger van

The Bromsgrove proven plan

I had a look at the Bromsgrove models site and modified my previous plan to the Bromsgrove proven plan, I’ve hot wired a socket and connected the chip out of the box it works but I think the CV’s need adjusting. Time to fit the chip in to place now I know it works and tidy up the wires, now where is that clear bathroom sealant?

Unfortunately the chip is a tad to big to fit properly, I do not want to butcher the chassis to fit it in so I’ll look out for either a Digitrax DZ125 or a Gaugemaster DCC22 both are around 10x 8 mm so they should fit ok. I used the Gaugemaster DCC26 in the Bachmann 08 she works a treat.

Mainline British Rail Class 03

The week end has arrived once again and yesterday our friendly postman delivered two brown paper parcels I bid on EBay for a Mainline British Rail Class 03 and a Bachmann British Rail Class 08 much to my surprise I won both items for £24 and £41 respectively.

I have stripped the 03 and formulated a plan to fit a Guagemaster DCC26 chip, the loco has a split chassis popular in the early ‘80s. First off was to remove the body and workout what to do. I thought the best action was to actually remove the motor

and snip off the tags from the terminals which originally are trapped each side of the chassis

next two small tags are made to fit under the terminals

a couple more were made to fit under the motor fixing screws one on the left and the other on the right

next the 4 wires from the decoder need to be soldered to the 4 tags that have already been fitted as an aid I have dabbed the correct colour paint near to the respective terminals

the red wire will pass through the hole at the top and attach to the right side of the chassis

Kilroy was here

Not much happening today I have ordered some Hornby 14.1mm 2 hole coach wheels for the coach and some Bachmann 36-026 coupling. Oh I did produce a decal sheet containing urban graffiti.

Vandalised!

Can you imagine the outrage I felt when I got home to find my crew coach had been vandalised by the local Chavs? I blame the parents no discipline anymore. That bombshell aside I took the opportunity to rework the side stripes a much more pleasing result.

Whose tags are these?

Best stand back it getting bigger!

After a week not feeling my best the weekend arrived and I felt I should unveil my weeks work it’s a coach. Having scoured the internet for a cheap and cheerful specimen, I failed to acquire any thing I felt I could use at reasonable prices. What is it with EBay all the prices are astronomical and listed load are listed as rare? Anyway I bought a Dapol 57ft Stanier brake from my local model shop for £12 the only mod apart from the colour scheme is blanking off the corridor connections. More decals had to be made to complete the paintwork

Well that’s just about this project finished what next. I’m not sure I have two Pugs’ but I’m not ready for them just yet.

watching paint dry

Fabricated the jacks and waiting for the paint to dry I can't understand why people say I’d rather watch paint dry is really boring . in any case there is not much to see

Jigging in the rigging

Most of the day so far has been split between rigging the crane and sorting out duplicated entries in my aircraft database. Back to the former rigging is complete and works as I hope it would I think that when I get around to building a layout it will sit in a siding. I knew that would be the case but I wanted to make I a working model just to prove to myself I could do it. All that aside I have to fabricate the side jacks and fit some couplings.

As a by-product of my resumption in the modelling hobby I find the arthritis in my fingers a lot better still not 100% but more movement in the joints that’s it for today over the next week I will fabricate the side jacks.

The weekend has finally arrived

The weekend has finally arrived and work has started on applying my decals they were more difficult than I anticipated due to the thinness of the decal once released from the carrier. After trashing one set of stripes I decided to brush the area where the design was to be placed with a weak solution of washing up liquid and water it proved to be the solution (no pun) to enable the design to be placed on the model.

There still is some work to be done the hoist ropes need attaching and the jib fully rigged. I did go for the spring option to some down pressure on the jib it works a treat. And of course lots of touching up of the paintwork. I must admit I am really pleased with the decals.
