“Dunworkin” the vision

“Dunworkin”

Well due to inclement weather here I made a rough draft of my proposed layout “Dunworkin” using AnyRail drawing package. I guess there will be many tweaks before I am finished. I would appreciate your input, as track design is not my strongest subject.

That’s all folks.

A quick update on the turntable project, I tested the motor with and ancient Gaugemaster DC controller and can achieve a full rotation in 58 seconds not quite 1RPM but close enough. Finishing will go on to back burner now until I can install it into the layout (yet to be constructed) then it will be handrails and painting the deck. I may be a little quite now for a week or so whilst I prepare the room for laying the base boards.

Dapol turntable conversion part 3

As there has been some interest in my Turntable project I have a few shots of the components I made or the Turntable.
Motor and gearbox 200:1. As this is over 25years old the output shaft is ¼” dia.

Turntable well, there should be enough space available to fit some wipers around the pivot point if required.

Underside of deck with the pivot box the two white tubes for my electrical connections. These will be a couple of LGB 63120 electrical pickup brushes.

Topsides of deck with the pivot box motor mounting bush. Slater’s 0446 chequer plate and 0432 1mm spaced planking for between the rails.

End view of deck to show cross section of the rail bed fitting.

Dapol turntable conversion part 2.5

Stonehenge has been trimmed and the motor/gearbox installed first test run tonight pretty chuffed.

Dapol turntable conversion part 2

Over the last couple of days I have been busy making the well walls, I the end I used the backing card from an A4 pad cut into strips bonded to some home printed brick paper. I slopped on a base coat of rusty brownish wash prior to gluing the rail base down. When its dry I will “bleed” the rust on to the concrete base.

Work on making the well.

This morning I drilled the 24 6mm holes through both top and bottom of the turntable well, and glued 24 6mm dowels into the bottom of the well. I have to think how I can bend 3mm MDF into a 12 inch circle for the well wall!

I think as it will only be cosmetic and non load bearing artist mill board may be an option. Not much else going on in the construction department Oh I have trial fitted the track pickups more on that tomorrow

More work on the Turntable

Ok the Hornby base has been junked and a new well is being constructed from 3mm MDF to accommodate the bridge.
