Continuing the refurbishment of my Pug I had to replace some of
the lead weight I milled away in order to fit the decoder. Carful measuring of
the boiler enabled me to add 8mm of lead to the rear of the existing weight.
Carefully rolling some reclaimed lead flashing (I know what you’re
thinking no it’s still on the church roof!) to 1.2 mm thick I cut 6 squares and
laminated them soldering the top edges before attaching to the original weight.
All that is needed is to re-profile the additional lead to the contours
of the original weight.
Now the weight has been trimmed and cleaned up it fits quite snugly,
I guess at 50 grams it is slightly lighter than the original weight but I think
the end result will be worth it.
