Yippee tomorrow is Monday.

Just a quick update today I milled the ventilation slot in the motor mount, then removed the square buffers and fitted the buffer beams from the old Dapol kit just to be a little different. There are more coats of primer than a Rolls Royce now. Well that’s my lot for this week end.

I forgot my quick sketch for the motor mount here it is.

New wheels

New wheels and coupling rods arrive from Peters spares on Thursday; I though it was about time to fabricate the motor mount to fit the Mashima motor. So here we are my effort it fits the cab but will it work. I am waiting for a scrapper to arrive from fleabay so I can cannibalise the motor for the worm gear, and other useful bits ok I suppose for £8!

Horror lurking below

Turning my attention to the chassis of the pug I discovered that the poor little thing has been to the moon and back judging from the wear on the nylon gear and wheel sets. There is no plating left on the treads subtitle camouflage with some metallic paint concealed the horror lurking below! I mist remember that trick when I want to sell some tat on fleabay oh make sure the picture is slightly out of focus too. New wheel sets and rods on order from Peters spares.

Weight! Continuing the refurbishment of my Pug

Continuing the refurbishment of my Pug I had to replace some of the lead weight I milled away in order to fit the decoder. Carful measuring of the boiler enabled me to add 8mm of lead to the rear of the existing weight.

Carefully rolling some reclaimed lead flashing (I know what you’re thinking no it’s still on the church roof!) to 1.2 mm thick I cut 6 squares and laminated them soldering the top edges before attaching to the original weight.

All that is needed is to re-profile the additional lead to the contours of the original weight.

Now the weight has been trimmed and cleaned up it fits quite snugly, I guess at 50 grams it is slightly lighter than the original weight but I think the end result will be worth it.

Even more pug news

Even more pug news, this morning I milled the lead weight to enable a chip to be fitted into the boiler. Not the easiest material to mill fine cuts and paraffin to lubricate its job done. The first fit looks good but I need to wait for the replacement chassis to arrive before I can do the final assembly. I guess that will be next weekend.
